The Great British Beauty Clean-Up: Let’s Recycle for a Greener Future

Join Noughty and the Sustainable Beauty Coalition for the Great British Beauty Clean Up!

Hey Noughty crew! We’ve got something super exciting to share. The beauty world is about to level up, and you’re invited to be part of the change. As proud partners of the British Beauty Council, we’re buzzing to back the Sustainable Beauty Coalition’s epic new campaign: The Great British Beauty Clean Up.

This isn’t just any campaign—it’s a game-changer. Launching in March 2025, it’s all about teaming up with brands, retailers, and YOU to tackle the beauty industry’s waste problem. Spoiler: we’re talking big impact, small actions. Let’s break it down.

Why Does Beauty Need a Cleanup?

Fact check: the beauty industry creates over 120 billion units of packaging every year. Yep, that’s a lot of waste ending up in landfills. At Noughty, we’re on a mission to make beauty more sustainable (learn more about our sustainability efforts here), but we can’t do it alone. That’s why we’re all in for this campaign. Together, we can:

Reduce waste by shopping smarter and using less.

Reuse and refill wherever possible (hello, refillable beauty!).

Recycle like pros with better take-back schemes and household recycling hacks.;

It’s time to rethink our routines and make them planet-friendly. And guess what? It all starts with those empties.

How You Can Get Involved

Here’s your mission: recycle your beauty empties now! Yep, grab a box, drawer, or bag and start stashing all those used-up products. Focus on:

Travel minis, samples, and mascaras (they’re usually too small for normal recycling).

Makeup palettes, compacts, and lipsticks (made with tricky-to-recycle materials).

Toothpaste tubes and lotion pumps (non-recyclable materials).

Basically, anything you’d usually bin without a second thought. Bonus points for checking your bathroom bins too—that’s where most recyclable beauty bits end up lost.

Mark your calendars!

During Waste Week (3rd-9th March), The Great British Beauty Clean Up officially kicks off. The Sustainable Beauty Coalition is dropping some seriously helpful tools to make recycling a breeze.

You’ll get access to a fancy interactive map showing exactly where to take your empties. Whether it’s a brand’s take-back scheme or regular household recycling, this map’s got you covered. Let’s recycle our beauty empties the smart way!

And there’s more! This campaign aligns with key eco-dates like Global Recycling Day (18th March) and the UN International Day of Zero Waste (30th March). It’s the perfect excuse to flex those sustainability muscles.

Why It Matters

OK, real talk. Our beauty routines have exploded over the years (27 steps in some cases… wild, right?). That’s a lot of products… and a lot of waste. This campaign is here to remind us that being mindful with our beauty choices is the way forward. Think:

Cutting down waste with refillable products

Simplifying routines and saving money at the same time.

Keeping more stuff out of landfills and giving it a new life.

Together, we can make our beauty habits work for us AND the planet.

Let’s Recycle for a British Beauty Revolution!

By joining The Great British Beauty Clean-Up, you’re helping to create a more sustainable future for British Beauty. Start collecting your empties now, recycle them the right way, and keep an eye out for more updates in March. Small actions can make a huge difference—let’s clean up beauty together!
